Fight at the Bridge Empty Fight at the Bridge

Post by Garryowen Sat May 16, 2020 9:24 am

Here is a game I  had ten years ago. My description of the fight may be a little vague, but the photos tell the action fairly well. Charlie is trying to control the bridge crossing the Dong Nai River. In the photo below, the bridge is hard to see, just to the right of the cafe.

A Buddha shrine in the jungle nearby.

The bridge. Still using cake decorator palm trees and stepped hills on top of my mats back then.

The shot up Citroen and cafe show this has not been a peaceful area.

A Cobra, then a Spad fly over, heading on a mission somewhere.

The skies now being clear, Local Force VC move through the shrine.

A U. S. squad approaches the area at the same time.

More Americans in the area of the shrine, advancing toward the bridge.

Dug in VC await the Americans!

The fight at the ruins breaks out. Both sides take casualties.

Now at least two squads of NVA with Local VC are approaching the bridge. Troops are coming from all directions. But the Cobra returns and makes short work of many of the NVA as they are caught in the open crossing the bridge. VC are holding the wall around the cafe.

The devastation of the NVA squads by the Cobra caused the VC to break contact and evade into the jungle. The Americans had saved the bridge.

Great AAR Tom, and fantastic looking table. Are those Monolith huts? Fight at the Bridge 3667010091

Thanks.

Yes, nearly all the huts are Monolith. Some have corrugated metal “porch” roofs. I see one Britannia hut there too.

Thanks guys. I have a lot of pictures of old games. I was surprised with how easily adding the photos is, yet how much time it takes. I guess because I put up so many pictures. Also, I have to do a fair amount of editing to get at least somewhat of an intelligible flow or sequence.

Ya know, for some reason I get quite a bit of pleasure out of seeing NVA mowed down in the open by Cobras. Hit them with some flechette then zip them with the minigun!

I love it too.

Even the NVA players like the napalm. They always want me to pull out my Skyraider and drop some on them.
