Vietnam in 40mm?
I was doing some stuff online today and came across this YouTube video of someone's 40mm Vietnam collection for wargaming. The figures look good, but the scenery is kinda...."meh".
I was about to get excited thinking that my old tired eyes could someday be painting 40mm Vietnam until I looked into figures. $45 for a single US grunt??!! And that's "on sale" from the regular $65. This guy in the video above must have thousands of dollars sunk into THAT collection.
No thanks.

Remember Carlos Soltero? He used to use GI Joe sized figures to play. He's back done to 28mm now, but for a while there he was having wars in his yard, literally.
Oh give me a hoooome where the NVA roam, and the air support is stacked up all daaaaaay

There is no reason the 40mm figures need to be that expensive. Sash and Saber miniatures, the prime source of 40mm historical figures in the US, provides a wide range figures, primarily in the horse and musket period, at about $2 per figures. Unfortunately Sash and Saber has not, to this time, done anything post American Civil War. I think there is a manufacturer doing 40mm WWII but those figures are also a little pricey.

Re: Vietnam in 40mm?
I really loved painting the big chunky Jim Bowen 40mm sculpts he did for Graven Images. I have pretty much the whole Gotterdamerung range. Some painted already, but will probably leave the rest for when my eyes no longer like micro-armor, 15mm, 28mm.
