I'm interested to hear if anyone has seen the French movie of Dien Bien Phu (starring Donald Sutherland) and if it is worth the cost of DVD to buy it
(not cheap on Amazon)?

Re: Dien_Bien_Phu
Absolutely - the film is a masterpiece. Filmed on location, with the assistance of PAVN and the French 11th Parachute Brigade (the extras are all soldiers), and directed by a guy who was at the battle, and got captured by the Viet Minh there. It's a great film.

Agree, it's an excellent film. It helps if you have an understand of the battle before you watch the movie though. If you're still undecided, I'd suggest you watch some excerpts on Youtube.

Thanks all who replied! .... guess I'll just have to break down and buy the DVD. Not on Netflix streaming and/or Netflix DVD's.

It's a good film but the best one from Schoendorffer on Indochina war is far the " 317éme section ".

I have a DVD of Redfox's recommendation, but for the US market it is called the 317 Platoon.
Good movie. Seemed realistic but I know nothing of the period.

I think Darby and I watched this at his house one time. I don't remember much about it though to be honest. I'd like to try to watch it again though.

It was Donald Pleasance. It's been a long time since I watched that film. I would like to get the French DVD of it.
