8 Villagers to Christmas
I was inspired recently by a post over at Lead Adventure where the author pledged to paint “A Figure a Day til Christmas”. Being a slower painter I figured there was no way I could paint a figure a day, so I decided to do the next best thing…..set a goal/number to try to have completed by Christmas. For me, it’s going to be 8 Full Metal Miniatures villager figures. I’m not an assembly line painter, but I’m going to try and work on 2 figures at a time until my goal is accomplished.
I know, I know…… we all have paint loads on our workbench so why am I announcing what I’m going to paint? Well I found painting infantry for the Group Build inspiring and motivational, and holding myself to a goal publicly announced, holds me a tad accountable for getting it done. In past I would always paint with an upcoming game/campaign as the goal, but since Covid, things have been a tad……ummm…. “loose” on the mojo/motivation/goal setting front. Hopefully this project keeps me in check, and more importantly, motivated to continue painting now that my mojo is back and I have time to do so.
The first 2 of my 8 Vietnamese rural villagers, done over the last few days…..

Ahahah! I agree with you Todd sometimes it's hard to stick to a painting schedule.
But when the desire and the motivation are there ... you have to go for it!

Thanks Squirrely! I'm by no means a great painter, and have adopted the "Good 'Nuff" painting rule, but I think THAT makes things easier. I'm not getting hung up on too many tight details and really..... I'm happy how my stuff looks using the 5ft tabletop rule.

Started work on the next two. The cyclist is going to be challenging to base, but I figured painting the figure and the bike separately was a good plan.

Every time I read the title of this thread "8 Villagers to Christmas" I keep thinking I'm about to read the description of a movie on the Hallmark channel.

Re: 8 Villagers to Christmas
I can just hear the commercial tagline: "He was a down-on-his-luck Phoenix Project case officer just trying to capture some Cadre. She was just a lonely hootch-maid doing her best to survive while sweeping floors and informing on her VC neighbors. When they met after she tripped over a tent rope and he caught her nothing could keep them from a destiny of love and covert ops...."
Those figures are looking great! Having a goal can really work. I've made several and haven't been able to keep a single one. If everyone has their own theme music, mine is surely "sad trombone".

Re: 8 Villagers to Christmas
Todd, I thought those first two figures that were all painted were done by you. The later I read about being satisfied with the 5 foot rule. That made me think I miss read and the first two figures were not painted by you. They looked fine for the 5 inch rule!
So I went back and re-read and sure enough these fine looking figures were what you were talking about. Your painting deserves much more credit that you give it. Those are just fine.
Tom

That's a Hallmark Channel special for sure.

Thanks Tom. I truly appreciate that.

Re: 8 Villagers to Christmas
After a brief setback, feeling under the weather last week, things are back on track. The cyclist was a pain in the butt to base, and I decided to leave her plinth and paint it as a rock jetting from the ground. So these two are now done....
And began the flesh on the next two.....
Looks like getting these done before Xmas may be do-able after all.

Full Metal Miniatures civilian figures are really interesting and your paint job makes them stand out nicely!

Re: 8 Villagers to Christmas
Thanks guys. Much appreciated. I've been a bit distracted with other things over the past couple of weeks, so my attention hasn't been on completing these. But I still think I can get 'er done before Xmas.

Re: 8 Villagers to Christmas
The Hallmark reference reminded me of the time I sat down to watch something called “Danielle Steeles Nam”. I was unfamiliar with Ms Steele’s work and sat through 30 minutes of no Doors, Stones, CCR or the sound of Hueys before realising that there were going to be no deep penetrations into a Hot LZ. ( there may well have been later but in a different sense of the phrase)
Should have complained Trades descriptions, although a film titled Barbara Cartlands Dunkirk or Catherine Cookson Waterloo, I would have known better

Re: 8 Villagers to Christmas
I missed Al's post. That's pretty hilarious. Beware of ANY show that begins with "Danielle Steele".

OMG, Al wasn't joking: the horror is real:
HOW did I miss this vital piece of Nam literature?
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/63580.Message_from_Nam
The reviews are quite something too:
"I read this while pregnant with my youngest, and I cried through most of it."
I think I would too, but for different reasons....
