Re: Check Your Gear! 2021 - 2022
Hello all! I've been gaming Vietnam for a while now, in 20mm, with small platoon level actions using my own rules and company sized battles using Hammer of Democracy.
I have a mind to do eventually play in 3mm or 6mm, too, to do some of the big mechanized engagements in the 70s more justice. (A grand scale Xuan Loc game would be ultimate goal.)

Welcome aboard Nathaniel!
Xuan Loc, that'd be a good one! A great comic/memoir came out a few years ago about the attack, give it a looksie if you can.

Thanks FlyinSquirrel and Darby.
There's a solid Journal of MIltiary History article on Xuan Loc, too, that I need to go look up and pillage. Complete with calling in a daisy cutter strike on a PAVN HQ.

Re: Check Your Gear! 2021 - 2022
Yes welcome, Grignotage. It is nice to see another 20mm player here. I play the same game level you are now, using an amalgamation of various editions of FNG, plus some mechanics from Nuts. And some house rules.
1972 interests me as well. I have recently done some Britannia NVA armor in that size. I have scratch built (nothing to it) some LAWs to hang on RVN Airborne figures and have some ruined buildings done. I need to do more. I am still going to do it with a player commanding only a platoon. Your idea of doing a larger size game with smaller figures does have its advantages.
We gotta get Darby to give more info on that comic.

New FNG
Hello to everyone, l am a rather mature UK gamer who has played with toy soldiers since as long as I can remember!
I am not new to Vietnam gaming and have had Platoon 20 and Baker Company in the past, but recently picked up some Elheim 20mm that really are lovely figures but have now been seduced by the Gringo 40 offerings in 28mm and eagerly await my first order, Empress will be on the shopping list, possibly the Rubicon plastics once released.
I have ordered Wayne Bolland's The 'Nam but might will also dabble with Chain of Command as I game WW2 with these already. Platoon sized actions will be my limit.
In addition l play WW2 NW Europe, Western Desert and have a nice Marine platoon for Pacific games. Going back in time l have matched armies in 28mm for ACW and AWI using Rebels & Patriots.
I will post photos of my stuff as it gets painted, nice to be here!

Welcome Oldgamer! I'm looking forward to seeing your future posts. I love the Empress figures. I haven't picked up any of the Gringo 40's Nam stuff yet, but I do have a bunch of the Mexican Revolution figures. They are nice quality!

Welcome. The Empress figures are lovely; my wife has quite a few. She also likes Fullmetal Miniatures and Gringo40s and has promised me she'll paint come PAVN for me....at some point.... one day.....

Re: Check Your Gear! 2021 - 2022
Well as an FNG I want to say hello I tried wargaming in late 1970s as a solo thing. I was working shifts up to 36 hours without getting to bed (normal in those days) so no chance to join groups. I gave up as everything became a massacre (Combined Assaults in 1/300 and WWI in 20mm, that is no surprise). I now model in 28mm (Vietnam and Napoleonics) 1/72 for the Second French Armoured Division (28 vehicles so far) and 20mm Prussians for a National Waterloo project.
My wife and three sons have tolerated my changing obsessions, whether Pearl Harbor (ships and aircraft), Finnish fighters of WWII or British Landing Craft (still in 1/300). Retired now and no longer "Licenced to Kill", but the experience of years operating with a microscope still helps me now!

Re: Check Your Gear! 2021 - 2022
Only since the late 60s. Actually only saw them twice in England and the first time I was unconscious through most of the act. In truth they were terrible that night and it rained and rained and rained. I, for over 30 years, had a framed signed painting of Jerry G on my clinic wall, which did worry some folk, and my Jeep still has a Deadhead sticker on the windscreen. I have much, much less hair than back then and, like Bill Clinton, I never did inhale........never.

"ONLY" since the late 60s? Great stuff! I'm a big fan of their late 60s/early 70s music. I never got to see them live.

Re: Check Your Gear! 2021 - 2022
Hello guys!
I have a large collection in 15mm all based up to play Battalion level battles. In fact, I could probably do a regiment! My primary focus is on the Easter Offensive, but I am starting to branch out into other areas of the conflict. I recently acquired some (edit:15mm) US and ANZAC figures, so I have that to look forward to. I am looking into collecting 20mm figures to individually base them for squad and platoon actions.
