Through Enemy Eyes
I guess most of you will know or have heard about Australia’s biggest battle in Vietnam, well biggest one day battle and loss of life, the battle of Long Tan.
On August 18th 1966 Delta Company 6 Battalion RAR, approximately 110 men ran into up to 2500, a conservativecestimate, of NVA and main force soldiers.
There have been numerous books written on the subject and most are accurate and compelling.
The platoon commander of 12 Plt D Coy on that day was Dave Sabben. Dave was a contributing author to a book called The Battle of Long Tan as told by the commanders.
In addition, Dave has also spent a lot of time researching the battle from the Vietnamese perspective and in 2005 released a book called Through Enemy Eyes.
The book is in a genre part way between fiction and non-fictional called “Factional”. He has woven a story of the battle from the NVA/VC side through the facts known about there intentions and movements up to and through the battle until they withdrew and just after the battle.
It is a great read, highly recommended

As a follow up, Dave Sabben has a web site and sells the book as an e-book and has some good downloads on different battles as well, one's he mostly uses when he is doing guided tours of Vietnam.
