Contrast paints Empty Contrast paints

These have come into vogue the last few years.

Anybody tried them?

I tried some Marines in 28s a year back but wasn’t convinced and redid conventionally.

Armypsinters version then came out, did some British Napoleonic , then when doing cross belts white became pink. Apparently a feature of the first incarnation was the paint reactivated.

End of that experiment.

Saw Vallejo had released their version and tried them, more successful but not convinced how much time it saves.

Doing28mm 7th Cavalry for western gaming. Tunics flesh stetsons, bandanas all worked. Pain is having to do the webbing. It’s blue due to the tunics being painted, had to prime them white to try the “contrast”. Too thin to go on one coat so reverting to traditional method.

WW2 and later will work I think where uniforms and accoutrements are the same. My earlier issue with nam was the range of colours available

Other periods i think there’s a place for it but not in isolation.
