28mm Vietnam war gun trucks
Hello all,
As suggested by BravoSix, here are some pictures of my 28mm Vietnam war gun trucks. The weapons are not installed and interior is not yet detailed.
They are converted from Solido Kaiser Jeep 1:50 trucks from eBay. I found that solution less expensive than the Corgi Unsung Heroes trucks.
I made them for a 28mm diorama I will do next year (for the moment I am painting the vehicles and US infantry).
Regards
I uploaded the painted results in the gallery of the forum ( Gallery )

Hey RM. Thanks for posting these. The finished products I saw at LAF were amazing!!! You can also just link the gallery pics to this thread as I'm not sure if anyone uses the gallery except to link pictures to.
Didn't you already join up as Steders? I see that name in the membership list.

Holy smokes, quite the convoy you have there! Great stuff, especially with all of the scratch made piping and details.
Oh give me a hoooome where the NVA roam, and the air support is stacked up all daaaaaay

Great trucks. The weathering makes them look like they are really in the field.

Re: 28mm Vietnam war gun trucks
Thank you. I discovered pigments late. I was so impressed by artists like Mig Jimenez that I though it was for specialists only. Then I told me: if they can... Pigments (so weathering) change everything and it is simple and fast to obtain a realistic result. First I mix earth with pva glue (or plaster or fine sand) to make mud under the vehicles. Then I paint with a layer of burnt Sienna color (like Pebeo Mat Pub burnt Sienna) , highlighted with a cinnamon color (like Pebeo deco creme cinnamon). I wash the tires with cinnamon color. When dry I use AK Interactive medium rust pigments + fixer (White spirit) on the rims only. And for the bodywork of the truck I only brush (without fixer) randomly with AK Interactive Vietnam Earth pigments. And that's all.

Re: 28mm Vietnam war gun trucks
Hello, something WIP:
in early stages of the war, gun trucks were often improvised armored vehicles, with sandbags and wooden planks. I imagined a fictional gun truck based on a M52 tractor and M127 semi-trailer. I will call it "Fort Apache". To realized it I looked for 1:50 (roughly) scale vehicle parts but I couldn't find exact match (I wanted a truck cabin a bit larger than the Solido Kaiser Jeep). So (I apologize, it is not accurate...) I decided to use the trailer of a Altaya Willeme truck (1:43) and the front of a GMC truck (1/43). Then I started to convert them... Here is the WIP. I still have some details to add, some defaults to hide, but I think it is interesting to see it now before painting and weathering...I will post later the final results with figs and dimensions.

Re: 28mm Vietnam war gun trucks
Next gun truck will be "Bounty Hunter". And for the last one...I hesitate.
I like this one:
Finally I decided to use the 1/64 WPL trucks as tractors for my tanker trailers (two to do + one burnt/ambushed).
And I found on eBay a Solido 1/50 that I will convert in a wrecker for my convoy. As far as I know there was always one in a convoy. so a "must have".

Nice Richard. I think you're the only member who's ever focused so much on Motor Pool operations.

Re: 28mm Vietnam war gun trucks
Hello BravoSix, after a long break I finally restarted my activity (painting minis, building my display diorama). I restarted with my wrecker. Just in detailing phase.
I know this is not a plastic gluers forum but I think this is nice to add original items to a wargame table or a diorama (as the M88 from FullMetalMiniatures that I will buy one day)
