Latest Book Received
Thought I'd kick off a new thread here that people can add to as they acquire printed material to their library that they care to share with the members.
Just got these two titles of a local eBay seller....

I have that one - it's a great read. Lots of good detail.
I did a game based on one battle in the book:

Wow, that's great OTB. While reading these types of book my brain will start cooking up scenarios. It's awesome to see you already put some of it on the table.

Latest finds at a local second-hand bookstore...
The Long Gray Line by Rick Atkinson; a profile of the West Point Class of 1966, most of who ended up in Vietnam. The book follows the impact the Vietnam War had on their lives and their army careers. Flicking through, I found it even has reference to a race riot that occurred in Erlangen (West Germany) at an army base in the 1970s. Erlangen is an odd little town I once spent time in - beneath its pretty exterior there is some hard-core Nazi history, given it's in Bavaria and is not far from Nuremberg. Looks like it will be an interesting read.
The Raid by Benjamin F. Schemmer is about the raid on Son Tay prison in North Vietnam in 1970. I'm reading it at the moment and it is very well written and researched.
The Gate by François Bizot is the memoir of a Frenchman who was captured by the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia and was the only Western prisoner to survive and escape from there post-1975. It looks like a good "sequel" to Dieter Dengler's "Escape From Laos". Unlike Dengler, he was living in South-East Asia when he was captured and he spoke Cambodian fluently, so he has some unique insights into the mentalities he encountered.

Wow... that looks like a haul. I have to admit though, my eyes were immediately drawn to the Scotch.

The glass was for scale. It had 10 year-old Cuban rum with falernum in it.

Re: Latest Book Received
Thanks guys. Rod, yes, they're a quite varied bunch. I included some novels as I need to read more fiction: I have started Matterhorn, which is stunningly good. Tom, I've pretty much run out of shelf space in my house and garage. Living in an earthquake zone, I'm not prepared to go all the way and fill the house and garage with floor to ceiling shelves. Recently I have been thinking of taking some old books on other topics down to the charity store to make way for the Vietnam War stuff. I need to consolidate the Nam collection too - I've got books in the garage, in my bedroom, the Vietnam language ones are upstairs, and the DVDs and video cassettes should be with them too.

Re: Latest Book Received
Great selection of books OTB.
I had the "Meditations in Green" paperback version ages ago but never read it.
I remember thinking "I hope it's not written by this Stephen Wright".
