Rubicon 1/56th Huey - Coming Soon
I'm sure my fellow 28mm enthusiasts have seen this, but just came across the preview for the "Coming Soon" 1/56th Huey from Rubicon. Not many details, but I'm hoping it's a pretty straight forward build and contains less of those fiddly bits that Italeri seems to have with it's models.

Found more WIP and info on this in their company forum here.

Re: Rubicon 1/56th Huey - Coming Soon
For as well as Rubicon usually does their research there are some things they are showing that just baffle me. I guess put some of those weapons in so this could also be used for Cold War era? I mean, the D and H were never used as gunships (except for a couple birds converted by the Aussies, and that was a different mounting system), the D also did not have the antenna tubes out the front. If you want to do a gunship, do a proper B/C/E model. A lot of those weapons could be on N or P models but no way on Ds and Hs, just not strong enough.
That said, it looks to be a quite detailed model. I hope the final parts fit better than the print tests as there are some pretty good gaps shown.
Out of curiosity, is it that important to have them at 1/56 vs 1/48?

I think that's their preferred scale Darby. And I think the plan from what it shows from the postings on their forum, it will be useful for Cold War as well. Rubicon is a member here, so perhaps they can shed some light on some of their plans/details.

As to the panel gaps, they say in the forum over there that parts of the model will be removable to view the interior. That may be some of the problem.

I've never been that bothered about helicopters for wargaming.... but having picked up their VC and marines I think I could be tempted. Really impressed with their figures.

Nice looking kit, although bizarrely they have included a weapons fit that really only belongs on UH-1B and C models, at least within a Vietnam time frame. Not complaining mind you. That set up will allow you to make RAAF Bushrangers, if you can tweak the M60s into twin mounts.
I get the impression that Rubicon go with a lot of 'it looks cool' rather than detailed research. Their forthcoming Australians being a case in point. That said i have a goodly number of their kits and they are beautifully engineered. Hoping the Huey is the same.
