Re: Micro Scale Madness!
Yeah, that's why I mentioned K&J. You said you bought them from them in an earlier post.

Thanks Todd.
How about this, glue a sphere to the top of the flight stand and then glue a "ring magnet" with an inner dimension the same as the diameter of the sphere and hopefully a thickness about half the diameter of the sphere.
The ring would not look out of place on the under side of a helo and could help with storage and transport and you could then also "rotate" the helo/CAS aircraft on the sphere to get those cool attack angles.
Just a thought and I am so going to try it with my 15 mm helo's.

Re: Micro Scale Madness!
I ordered these two. Will have to see how they work once they arrive. The whole Micro Scale Madness Project has been a lot of acquiring stuff, testing stuff, seeing what works or looks good with what. Extremely slow postal services has made this a long process.
The only thing I've made a definite decision on is the Pico Armor helos and vehicles.
Here's the magnets:

Todd,
Did you order magnetic rings as well or are you just going to use normal metal ring washers?

I'm doing something similar to this:
https://i-94enterprises.com/tips-help/how-to-alter-flight-stands-to-achieve-roll-pitch-yaw/
With a flat magnet glued into the bottom of the chopper.

Todd, Do you have to drill the model to fit the magnet or just glue it to the bottom, the article wasn't clear that, well not to me
I prefer not to have to alter the model which is why the ring washer, magnetic ring glued to the under side got my attention matched to the magnetic ball bearing of course.

Re: Micro Scale Madness!
I chose small enough magnets Ken, that can be just glued to the underside without modifications. Another site recommended drilling a small divet into the flight stand so the ball/sphere magnet can seat in there so I'll probably do that. I've heard of people using superglue for the flight stand then finding out the glue frosted the clear plastic, so I'll avoid this by using 5 min epoxy instead.

Re: Micro Scale Madness!
This is what the micro scale madness is doing to my eyes..... time to shift up to bigger scales for a while.
As for an update, my forest test piece suffered a setback. I forgot "clump foliage" isn't really clumpy. I ordered some and it's not what I needed. I need Woodland Scenics "Bushes" which are clumpy. Go figure why they're called bushes and not clump foliage.

Re: Micro Scale Madness!
I found a great solution to the lack of rotor discs in this scale. Someone mentioned "sequins" over at TMP in an old post so I did some research and was able to source a seller on eBay that carried clear sequins with a center hole punched in them. They arrived yesterday and they're perfect. Made of the same sort of thin plastic as a blister pack (which everyone always suggests cutting rotor discs out of).
I got 20mm for the main Huey rotor and 5mm for the tail rotor. They look the part. Once I'm done painting my Pico helicopters, I'll mount a few for photos. I've got an order for 10mm and 3mm for my Loaches, as we speak.
Excuse the poor photo. Shiny bags don't co-operate well for quick photos.

Re: Micro Scale Madness!
It's not necessarily a lot of money. Pat has a dozen Corgi Hueys and Cobras ( 8 and 5 IIRC) from Corgi's 'Unsung heroes' range. They are very dear if they are MIB (and the box mint too) but not if they are 'used' in anyway. You could easily pay more for a 1/48 kit. Same goes for the 113s, trucks and M48sBravoSix wrote:This is true. But who has THAT kind of money?!

Re: Micro Scale Madness!
This is true Chris. I think I decided on this project because mainly I wanted to do some sort of Chopper Command style game, and figured this was a cost effective scale to do so. As well, space is an issue. Maybe someday if the GF and I move in together, we'll have a rumpus room I can lay out a 6x11 table, but for now..... it's coffee table size I have to think about.
Enter the mico scale.

Re: Micro Scale Madness!
I quite understand. Pat and I have been able to have a good sized table for a long time now, but that was not always the case....we had to get rid of our children first.

Easier than we expected; we juts kept moving house without telling them. They caught up with us the first couple of times.
