Can't beat a group photo... outstanding collection Ash. Looking forward to see what you have on the table next.

Re: 28mm Empress NVA
Thanks.
Not sure what will be next for this range, there was talk of some war correspondents based on actual individuals, also an M101 Howitzer, both of which I'll add.
For the Vietnamese I'll probably add some of the civilians.

Wow are you knocking them out. Incredible collection.
Ash, I have only a modest collection and live in a small
house here in the US. I have storage problems just with
what little I have.
Where do you store all that terrain and figures? :

Re: 28mm Empress NVA
I store the figures and vehicles in KR cases. The Vietnam stuff fits into three cases (not Inc the terrain), the ww2 stuff into another case, then modern 28mm another. 4 cases of 20mm figures & vehicles. Then there was/is the old 40k collection that I've started selling of over the last few months...

Re: 28mm Empress NVA
This collection is a living master's picture...I see on LAF that you have several strings to your bow* (WW2 British for Arnhem,...) but I hope you will continue to improve and share this exceptional NAM collection.
*(Google translate.... hope it matches well what I wanted to say)

Re: 28mm Empress NVA
Thanks Richard, that's very nice of you to say so.
The WW2 stuff was mainly an excuse to paint more of Mr. Hicks awesome creations, namely the late war British. It sort of made sense to then add a platoon of protagonists, then seemed rude not to add some vehicles...

The Op Market Garden British Airborne, due out next year, look to be even better (if that's possible) with regard to cool character details, so I'll definitely be adding all of those.
In the meantime I'm trying to get into character to paint some more UnderFire miniatures Rhodesian troops that have been languishing in my 'box of apathy', aka the 'pile of shame', where unpainted minis await the replenishment of interest and mojo. Got four 28mm & four 20mm, all waiting for some brushstroke...

Re: 28mm Empress NVA
Yes, the headscarf is truly amazing work. Reminds me of spiral markings I have seen painted on a Napoleonic Era Austrian standard. Some folks can do it.......not sure how though

Re: 28mm Empress NVA
Cheers for the feedback chaps.
The headscarf was fairly straight forward.
A basecoat of Vallejo 'White Grey'. The stripes were 'Dark Prusia Blue' with a little bit of black mixed in. Painted a sort of grid pattern, then went back with some thinned down 'White Grey' and broke up the pattern a bit, to make it look less like a dish cloth. Final wash with some Vallejo 'Umber Wash', make it look a bit grubby.

Well it certainly worked. Plus you do have a gift for painting SE Asian facial features in miniature

Just caught up today. Yes, your collection, Ash, is incredible. I may have missed something along the way, but do you use them for wargaming?

Re: 28mm Empress NVA
Whilst chomping at the bit waiting for the Arnhem Paras, I picked up a pack of the Vietnamese civilians to have something to chuck paint at.
Pack DS6
@ Tom: Yeah, one day for their intended use, for Wargaming. At present, just collecting and painting.

I love your collection.
Minis for a remake of "A bridge on the Perfume river too far"?

Re: 28mm Empress NVA
Added a brace of 'Foo Dog' statues, to add to the general scatter collection. Should go nicely with a Buddha statue I had a go at previously.

Painting resin to look like stone is an art.... and you have certainly achieved it! Really nice work.

Thanks very much. It's fairly straight forward, no little brushes needed.
It was black primer, followed by a mid tone grey (Basalt), wash of Umber, dry brush of the base grey, light dry brush of White grey/basalt (about 50/50). Then splodged on some AK 'slimy grime dark' (the old green enamel stuff), attacked with a brush loaded with white spirit, to spread it around. Added a little 'slimy grime light' over the top, mixed it in a bit. Once dry some watered down earth pigments, let dry, wipe off excess, add foliage to taste...

The Buddha and the dog statues are from Ainsty Castings, I found them on Warbases:

Here's a pic of it on a base with some little blokes (for scale).
I have had a go at an aquarium piece, was looking for something with an 'Apocalypse Now' feel to it.
