28mm Streets of Hue Empty 28mm Streets of Hue

Post by Richard MARQUIS Thu Oct 01, 2020 2:26 am

Hello All,
I have started my display diorama about battle of Hue. It will be a set of modular streets sections, scratch build with everything I can find. I plan this year to make one road section (20x60 cm) and 6 street sections (10x20 cm each). I take as model some streets of Hue or Saigon from 1968. I just made the first section (to be detailed with electric wires and billboards, then painted). The next sections will be (inspired) :  the Casino cinema, the MITAC (Melia) factory with sewer tubes, bars (King bar, and others), a military compound entrance and a gas station. Of course with battle damages. It should give a representative overview of the fighting in the new city of Hue, waiting for more sections that will recall the Hue citadel, ruins and temples.
Regards, Richard

Thank you very much. And Tomrommel1, this is a good idea! Looking forward to see your realizations.
I just discover (I am just three years late...), while searching for images of Hue MACV compound, some screenshots of the virtual map from Rising Storm 2 PC game. It seems realistic and historical. I think I will pick up some ideas in the game for that part.
For the moment I added some texturing with plaster + water + PVA Glue and telephone cable wire. Then primed in black. And the old French manufacture is under construction. Next time I will post pictures when painted.

Hello,
I made a first set of STL files for detailing my display diorama. The scale is 28mm. Here is an example of the printed result. I made a Wickham trolley (very basic - to be detailed more), a pattern of Vietnamese circular symbols (diameter 20mm each), a pattern of squares for making balcony, the Casino cinema gate, sewer pipes, a triangular pole, two gas pumps, an iron curtain, a traffic gatehouse (only the roof and the bottom) at a crossroad and a 120mm diameter round that could look like an ashtray but that is in fact the base of a bomb crater revealing VC tunnels network. It is very basic design but if you have a 3D printer and are interested by some of them, I can send it/them. Just send me a PM with an email I can send a zip attached (I don't know how to attach a file to a post on this forum).

Cannot resist to show the Rap Casino cinema from Saigon ( images ) quite finish and ready to paint... 28mm long and 14cm high. I hope my children will not discover I am looting their Playmobil crates to find bits for detailing...

And for the old French MELIA factory, refugees lived there in those concrete sewer pipes. It is to recall that fact. Sewer pipes to be detailed as shown on 1969 pictures.

For the gas station, after having watched many pictures from that period, I choose the company. (not a real surprise):
