Latest Vehicle Received Empty NVA armored vehicles

Post by Garryowen Mon Nov 23, 2020 4:32 pm

For some years I have had a very few Britannia 20mm armored vehicles for 1972 scenarios from the Easter Offensive. Not too long ago I bought some more so that now I have three T-54s, two PT-76s and one T-34/85. Quite recently I added two more T-34/85s I bought from George Guerrio for the princely sum of $5.00 each. the last two have not been painted yet.

Here is a photo of the first six.

Yep! That's my plan. I have been making LAWs (pretty simple in 20mm) and hanging them on my ARVN Airborne figures. I have a bunch of Old Glory 15mm Peiking ruins that I think will work for 20mm ruins in An Loc or elsewhere. Still have to paint them.

Sounds good - coincidentally, recently I have been thinking of revisiting the battle of An Loc too now I am painting up more ARVN figures with LAWs.

Post by Richard MARQUIS Mon Dec 21, 2020 10:01 am

Hello,
for 28mm scale I bought this T-55 tank on ebay ( on ebay ).
It is in metal, that is interesting.
Tracks are a little bit fragile but for the price it is OK.

Personally I will paint it as a wrecked burnt out tank.

As I still have 2 gun trucks to do, I ordered on eBay two of these (find them using WPL 1/64 M35 keywords for example). They are just 1cm shorter in length than a Solido Kaiser Jeep truck (1/50) but two times cheaper. So when converted and painted I will post a picture.

Richard, any chance you can post a pic of the truck with a Baker Company figure beside it?

Hello, so the trucks are still between France and China... but waiting for them, I show you Baker Company minis beside a Solido Kaiser Jeep (1/50 13cm x 4,5cm x 5cm) and a 1/64 Ural that has the same dimensions as the coming WPL 1/64. So it does not look ridiculous:

Thanks Richard. It actually looks pretty good. I'm not a rivet counter, so if it looks close enough then.... tongue

Scales a slippery slope. I find alot of people are calling things 1/64 scale these days. I use Matchbox vehicles for my 15mm moderns and I'm surprised by the number of people on eBay labelling Matchbox as "1/64". They are NOT 1/64 scale. These trucks Richard post also don't like anything close to 1/64 scale.

Matchbox vehicles are truly "box scale", they are designed and scaled to fit in the packaging, regardless if its a box, blister card etc. A Matchbox Semi truck will be smaller in scale than a compact car, even though the are the same size in "box scale". On some Matchbox vehicles (but not all), the actual scale of the vehicle is printed/embossed/molded on the bottom of the vehicle. I use some Matchbox and Diecast trucks with my 15mm's but to my eye, Matchbox passenger cars looks way to big. When it comes down to it, if it looks right to you, use it. Perception is the key....

Agreed Paul. I mainly use trucks and military vehicles from Matchbox. Case in point, I was looking for a modern HEMMT cargo truck but no one makes one in 1/100 or 15mm. But then I found a Matchbox Jurassic Park flatbed truck, threw a Unimog cargo cover on it, and compared to Peter Pig 15mm, it looks good IMHO.

Yeah those will do. I have some West Wind truck sitters and some drivers and they're more on the 25mm scale side of things, so perhaps they'll look right.
