That is really neat.
I was thinking that omitting the color in the middle and adding more of the "shooting sparks" would make a great white phosphorous marking rocket or WP grenade.

That's really cool. I like Tom's idea too for Willie Pete.

I'm assuming "Willie Pete" refers to White Phospherous?

It's really cool, but I think Tom's Napalm looks better, creates more of a feeling of what we expect a napalm strike to look like, and has no fiddley electronics.

Re: modelling napalm with LED lights - optics
I ordered one of these napalm strikes and some arty markers a looooong time ago, then forgot about them. Well, they arrived, much to my surprise and delight. Was just able to give them a brief look this morning and they're pretty ok. The napalm isn't quite the size or shape I'd like it to be, so I might take it apart and rearrange it. Will spout more after a bit more investigation.

A few years ago I tried to work with him to build a napalm effect and this is the result. I offered up some corrections and he never returned my emails or made the changes so maybe I pissed him off.
