Danger Close V2 Rules from Empress Miniatures.
As some of you know we sell Danger Close rules. These were originally written by Matt Moran and designed for 15 aside infantry skirmish games from WW2 until today.
We tweaked them and re named a few years back and have been using them in house ever since but gradual tweaked the rules and added a lot more such as vehicles.
We have always viewed the rules as a foundation on which players can develop them further but do appreciate that many gamers do not do what I have usually done and develop rules and we have always planned to develop them. Thus after a lot of play testing over the last few years we are just about to release the version two enlarged set.
These rules still stick to the initial style of the rules and are now two A4 sheets both sides. Use only a D20 although I have now added an arrow die for certain quick and easy results eg artillery fire.
New sections added are;
Vehicles,
Communications,
Helicopters,
Fixed Wing,
artillery,
and lots more.
Here are some pictures of the test games of which the final one has just started. I have been playing Vietnam games in the lat two tests to add other dimensions but prior to that its primarily been Ultra Modern games.I am hoping to release these in the coming days.
The markers in the games are used by me for identification as I am playing the games solo over a number of days so can be ignored.

Great looking table Paul. I'd be interested to know how you did your flight stands.

Re: Danger Close V2 Rules from Empress Miniatures.
Working through a three part game test played across the same table. First part was an ARVN controlled ol French colonial town controlled by ARVN military with two Gage Commando armoured cars. The NVA did their usual attack via infiltrating the town. This was done by placing 6 entry points around the table and dicing each move for 3 man NVA fire teams to arrive.
They quickly swamped the table and most came on from the rural end of the table and made their way towards the town. One of the Gage's was ambushed as they patrolled the town and radioed for support. The second vehicle rushed to its aid but also found itself ambushed. Attempting to retreat it received an RPG hit that stunned the occupants. This allowed three more shots which finally destroyed the vehicle.
The first Gage which had been hit badly was missed by a few RPG's and hit by one more which only created light damage. The stunned crew were able to recover their wits and as they were at the table edge drive to safety thus leaving the area in the control of the NVA.
This was a six move game and despite being played solo worked very well. Certainly an unusual Vietnam game as it was a departure from the usual stumbling through the jungle.

Re: Danger Close V2 Rules from Empress Miniatures.
Phew got there.
Not long to wait Tom. We are doing three test games in two different places at the moment and I am busy tweaking stuff and clarifying things. The rules are now on 4 sides of A4 and contain a huge amount and so its necessary to make things as clear as possible. Although I can play test them for ideas and subtle changes I read them as one of the guys who wrote them so I know whats written. The other test is being done by two teams who do not know them.
They have come up with some great clarification issues. In short I do not want to release them with silly mistakes, even though I just know the odd one will creep through. They are not Vietnam specific but moderns. However a great deal of character can be added via the simple addition of such things as theatre specific additional rules and mechanisms such as chance cards.
I will pop up the second part of this game tomorrow which was played over the weekend and is a Marine Recon game that goes wrong for the recon unit. The NVA do not come out to well either tbh.

Re: Danger Close V2 Rules from Empress Miniatures.
That sounds very reasonable, as there were quite a few games released in the past without enough game testing before. So will keep quiet and wait . but a game written on 4 A4 pages is something to my liking .

Very beautiful table and figures.
You are absolutely right to do a thorough playtest and with people who know nothing abut the rules. Just let them play from what is written. That clarification is so incredibly important.

Re: Danger Close V2 Rules from Empress Miniatures.
The colonial buildings are Empress Miniatures. They are designed for SCW but as there were huge amounts of French Colonial buildings in Vietnam which are a similar design they work for that. Just ignore the Spanish posters and Franco graffiti
Second section of the game.
The US forces in the shape of Marines plan to re capture the village and area. First thing to do is to recce the area and so a Marine Recon team is sent into to look around. As this is solo play I a simply worked on a few options that seemed logical and rolled for choice.
The plan chosen was for Recon to chopper in at the back of the table and check the village out which was on the high ground. Capture a prisoner and if able destroy any assets in the place. As this village was on high ground it was figured that it would have observers in it at least.
It actually had local VC who were low grade and in position defending the rear of the village. An NVA fireteam in a hut. A Dshka covering the area and able to act as AA defence and the main NVA HQ. Oops!
The team arrived with Hog support and landed. The Hog took some AA fire and light damaged and the Recon team moved into cover. This had not started well.
